The Sync Smartband can act as a health keeper, fitness tracker, sleep tracker, locator or even built-in sensor. It will track health indicators, including steps, REM sleep patterns and burned calories. The MySync smartphone app uses Bluetooth technology to track up to eight devices up to (48meters) 150 feet away. Parents can set it so they will be alerted when a wearer leaves a designated "digital zone" or if the wearer gets lost.

No "Right" and "Wrong" Sides to New USB Type-C Connecter

The next generation USB connectors, known as USB Type-C, will be thinner, sleeker and will have the advantage of fitting into the drive both ways (up and down), meaning you'll be able to plug one in irrespective of which way up it is.

Industry review of the Type-C specification is scheduled to take place in the first quarter of 2014, with publication of a final specification expected in the middle of the year.

Industrial experts and major companies supporting the format — informs that an adapter will be necessary for the use of current USB devices with future PCs, smartphones or tablets with support for the new format.

Faster

USB Type-C will be able to transfer data at a rate of around 640Mbps, which is an improvement over USB 2.0 and microUSB which have transfer speeds of around 480Mbps, but is some way off the 10Gbps speed offered by USB 3.1.

Another key benefit of the new USB standard will be that Type-C will have the to charge devices with larger batteries faster than before, again something likely to appeal to smartphone and tablet manufacturers.

The new USB cables will allow a much higher amount of power to be transferred across the cable, meaning that the problem of not having enough AC adapters and plug sockets could become a thing of the past. 

For example, you could power your desktop monitor and desktop PC using a single power cable, with the new USB cable transferring power from one to the other.

Hidden Chips Inside Chinese Electric Iron And Kettles

 
News reports from Russia's state-owned channel Rossiya 24 showed footage of a technician opening up an iron included in a batch of Chinese imports to find a "spy chip" with "a little microphone" embedded into it. These hidden, embedded electronic chips are scanning and connecting to any computer within a 200m radius with unprotected Wi-Fi networks, once connected these "Trojan devices" were being used to spread viruses.

While the report says that the malware is being used to send SPAM, piggy-banking on infected computer's internet connection and resources without the owner's knowledge about it, our recent story "Hidden Backdoor In Your Internet Router - With Love, From China !!" and the fact that the rogue devices had "an microphone" further establishes the fact that these are or can be used for spying. The researchers also found other products having these rogue components including mobile phones, car dashboard cameras and electric kettles.
